In a place far away from the hectic life of concrete and neon we know as Tokyo there is another Japan, a different Japan, and the Japan that has been in our imaginations for a long time. This place is the island region of Shikoku, and on it, in one of its prefectures, Tokushima, is the city of Naruto.
Naruto is famous for its beautiful whirlpools. They are the image we have known from ancient woodblock prints and they have been swirling endlessly for as long as Japanese people have gazed down upon them. In the city of Naruto there is a sake brewery. This brewery has a history of over 200 years, and it was established so long ago by the Matsuura Family. The Naruto whirlpools have churned endlessly through the last 200 years of the Matsuura Family and the last ten generations of making sake.
Naruto seems to start in water in the sea, and then settle on the land in the lakes and rivers, fills the rice fields, and then, with the magic of science and artistry of agriculture becomes sake.
Welcome to the Naruto Sake Story.
