Part of the great adventure of Naruto Sake Story is for people from all over the world to come to rural Japan for a real “hands on” experience. And there is little more “hands on” than making your own pottery in an ancient multi-generational potter company. Mr Otani has been continuing his family’s work of creating pottery and all sorts of earthenware for many many years. His uniquly shaped “hill kiln” is a must-see. I’ve never seen anything like it. Our “Monitoring Tour” members had a wonderful time soaking in the atmosphere, learning about Japanese pottery, and then also having a treasure of an opportunity to create something themselves. Master potters were on hand to guide them. Unbelievable!
